Thank you for trusting us with one of the most important parts of your life: your child's early learning and development. We are honoured to be part of your child's formative years and to support their journey of discovery, growth and confidence.
Our programs follow a Montessori-inspired approach. Children learn through hands-on activities, independence and engagement with their surroundings, at their own pace. Throughout the day you'll see practical life exercises, sensory exploration, storytelling, art, music and outdoor play.
Childcare should feel like an extension of home: warm, safe and rooted in trust. Founded by parents and educators, Little Larks is a localized network of licensed home childcare providers for parents who want more than supervision.
We are guided by Ontario's pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen?, and its four foundations. Screens are used minimally and only for short educational purposes, so children can focus on hands-on play, outdoor exploration and creative expression.

We believe in learning by doing: arts and crafts, sensory play, music and movement, dramatic play, blocks and puzzles, climbing and running, and plenty of outdoor and nature play. Screen time is minimal and never used as a babysitter.
Our policy follows Ontario Regulation 137/15 and Sabrina's Law, 2005.
Please give at least two weeks' written notice; fees remain payable during the notice period. Little Larks may end care with written notice for reasons such as non-payment, repeated late pick-ups, not following policies, or needs a home setting can no longer meet safely. Serious safety concerns may lead to immediate termination. Whenever possible, we help your child transition smoothly.
The following are never permitted in any Little Larks home, by anyone:
Anyone who sees a prohibited practice must report it to the Children's Aid Society and to Little Larks. Contraventions lead to investigation, then retraining or mentoring, and in serious cases suspension or termination.
Every concern is taken seriously, handled fairly and kept confidential. You'll hear back within 5 to 7 business days.

Information about children and families is strictly confidential and shared only when needed within the agency or as required by law. We may update this handbook from time to time and will give you written notice of significant changes.
Our program statement describes how our care supports children's developmental needs through active, joyful care that builds healthy minds. It explains how we assess our programs, support our caregivers and strive for lasting impact. Little Larks believes in minimal or no screen time, so children's brains develop in a natural, human, interactive way.
Every child is capable, curious and full of potential. Our philosophy is grounded in Montessori principles and Ontario's How Does Learning Happen? framework. All programming, and the behaviour of every caregiver, student, volunteer, visitor and staff member, is consistent with that framework.
This policy makes sure everyone in our network understands how to put our program statement into practice. It sets out our screen-free, heart-centred expectations, defines prohibited practices and explains how contraventions are handled.
We operate under clauses 46(3)(a–k) of O. Reg. 137/15.
If anyone contravenes the program statement or commits a prohibited practice, Little Larks responds in proportion to how serious it is and whether it has happened before.
The Home Child Care Visitor and Agency Supervisor investigate to find out:
When the contravention is minor and doesn't involve a prohibited practice under s.48, the agency may require:
For repeated contraventions, or any incident involving a prohibited practice under s.48:
Everyone receives a thorough orientation, regular professional learning and mentoring from experienced Home Visitors. We keep records of orientation, training, investigations and measures taken, available to Ministry Program Advisors.
This policy and its procedures support the safe arrival and dismissal of every child in care. It gives home child care providers, staff (such as Home Child Care Visitors and agency administrators), students and volunteers clear steps to follow when a child doesn't arrive as expected, and when a child is picked up.
It fulfils the requirements of Ontario Regulation 137/15 for safe arrival and dismissal policies.
When a child hasn't arrived and the parent hasn't told the provider about a change or an absence (for example by voice message, or at the previous pick-up):
No later than one hour after the agreed arrival time, the provider calls the registered phone number(s) at least once, and sends a text message if there's no answer.
If the parent doesn't answer the call or reply to the text, the provider reports it within one hour in the Little Larks online reporting system, which notifies the Home Child Care Visitor and administrators.
The provider records the absence on the attendance record, with any details in the daily written record.
The provider contacts the parent and the emergency contacts on the child's file. Meanwhile, the child is given a snack and an activity while they wait.
Whether or not the parent answers, the provider reports to the Home Child Care Visitor. If the parent hasn't responded, the Visitor contacts them to say the child is still in care and asks about pick-up time. If an authorized person is picking up, they contact the Visitor, who calls the parent first, then the authorized person if the parent can't be reached.
If the parent or the person responsible for pick-up can't be reached, the provider contacts the authorized individuals on the child's file and logs it in the online reporting system for the Home Visitor and Little Larks.
If neither the provider nor the Home Visitor can reach the parent or any authorized individual within one hour of the agreed time, the provider tells the Home Visitor and Little Larks, then contacts the Children's Aid Society at 613-747-7800 and follows its direction.
Ontario Regulation 137/15, section 50, requires every licensee to have a safe arrival and dismissal policy. The policy must allow a child to be released only to people the parent has named, or in line with the parent's written permission. It must also set out the steps to take when a child doesn't arrive as expected, or isn't picked up as expected.
This policy gives parents, Little Larks, home child care and in-home services providers, and staff a transparent process to follow whenever a parent raises an issue or concern.
Every concern is treated confidentially. We protect the privacy of parents, children, providers, staff, students, volunteers and others, except where the law requires disclosure (for example to the Ministry of Education, the College of Early Childhood Educators, police or a Children's Aid Society).
Everyone, including members of the public and professionals who work with children, is required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect. A parent with such a concern will be advised to contact the local Children's Aid Society directly. Anyone who becomes aware of such a concern also has a "duty to report" to the Children's Aid Society.
| Your concern is about | Examples | Raise it with |
|---|---|---|
| The program | Schedule, toilet training, indoor or outdoor activities, menus | Your provider directly, or the Home Visitor or Little Larks |
| The agency or operations | Fees, placement | The Home Visitor or Little Larks |
| A provider, staff member or Little Larks | Conduct of a provider, Home Visitor or head office staff | The person directly, or Little Larks |
| Other people at the home | Anyone else present at the child care premises | Your provider directly, or the Home Visitor or Little Larks |
| A student or volunteer | Conduct of a student or volunteer | The person supervising them, or the Home Visitor or Little Larks |
We address the concern when it's raised, or arrange a meeting with you within 5 business days.
The right person begins investigating within 5 business days, or as soon as reasonably possible, with reasons for any delay recorded in writing. If the person you contacted can't help, they'll give you the right contact.
We share the resolution or outcome with you.
Ontario Regulation 137/15, section 45.1, requires written policies that explain how parents raise issues and concerns, how the licensee and its employees respond, and when an initial response will be given. Section 45 requires this policy to be included in the parent handbook.
Families trust us with their children and their most personal information. We take that seriously. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, who can see it and the choices you have.
This policy applies to Little Larks, Inc., a licensed home child care agency in Ottawa, Ontario. It covers everything we collect through littlelarks.ca, our online forms, the Provider Portal, our parent app, and in person, by email or by phone.
It applies to parents and guardians, the children in our care, home child care providers and their household members, caregiver applicants, volunteers, advisory clients and visitors to our website.
We collect only what we need to provide safe, high-quality care and to meet Ontario's licensing requirements.
We collect information about a child only from that child's parent or legal guardian, or from records we're required to keep while the child is in our care.
We never use your information for advertising, and we never build marketing profiles.
Some of the services we use may store information on secure servers outside Canada, for example in the United States. Information stored there may be subject to the laws of that country.
We keep information while your child is in our care, or while you work with us, and afterwards for as long as Ontario's child care regulations require us to keep records. After that, it's securely deleted or destroyed.
If you join the waitlist and decide not to go ahead, just ask and we'll remove your details.
Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you or your child.
Tell us if anything is out of date or wrong, and we'll fix it.
You can withdraw a consent at any time. Some information, such as emergency contacts and health records, is required by law to provide care, and we'll explain if a choice affects our ability to care for your child.
Contact us first and we'll work to resolve it. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change affects how we use your information, we'll tell enrolled families and providers directly.
We're so glad you've chosen to partner with us. This guide is your roadmap: how we work together, what to expect from us, and what we need from you to build a safe, nurturing and successful home daycare.

Each Little Larks caregiver builds a daily schedule around the children in their care: their ages, energy and interests. These five samples show the balance we aim for every day: unhurried mornings, hands-on learning, outdoor play twice a day, nutritious meals, an afternoon rest and calm goodbyes.
Schedules are flexible. Caregivers adapt to children's moods, needs and the weather while keeping a predictable rhythm.
